Anusara Yoga

The vision of The Davidsonville Yoga Center is to create a sacred environment where each student feels safe, open, and welcome on their journey to attain optimal health and well-being of body, mind, and spirit through the spiritual practice of Yoga.

At The Davidsonville Yoga Center we are honored to teach and share with our students the principles of Anusara Yoga.

John Friend developed Anusara Yoga in 1997. It is a uniquely integrated approach to hatha yoga that incorporates body, mind and heart as a synergistic team. Yet, first and foremost, Anusara Yoga is a heart- oriented spiritual practice that can greatly enhance one’s life physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Anusara Yoga is an exceptional therapeutic yoga system integrates the celebration of the heart, universal biomechanical body principles of alignment, and balanced energetic action in the performance of asana.

Anusara (a-nu-sar-a), means “flowing with Grace,” “ going with the flow,” “following your heart”. The poses in Anusara Yoga are considered to be“ heart-oriented”, and are expressed from“ inside out”.

Flowing with Grace through Anusara is saying yes to the whole spectrum of life. It is a willingness to be aware of all parts of ourselves – the light and the dark, the full range of our experience, thoughts, and feelings. It is simply to open our hearts with love to the present moment without clinging or pushing.

Anusara Yoga is an all-inclusive yoga that deeply respects and honors each student’s various unique abilities and limitations. Anyone can begin an Anusara Yoga practice! All postures can be modified to accommodate most limitations. Students often find their physical difficulties improve as a result of their continuing yoga practice.

Come and try a class and see why Anusara Yoga is one of the fastest growing schools of yoga in the country today!
